3D Printing is one of the most popular trends in the world right now, and it will have an impact on the FinTech industry as well. Various companies are looking to manufacture their 3D printer hardware and bring it to consumers all over the world. Some of those companies use crowdfunding campaigns to reach their goal, and Nexa3D is no exception. However, their NX1 is the world’s first fast 3D printer, creating objects at 1 cm per minute.

NX1 Crowdfunding Campaign on Kickstarter
Coming up with the concept for a new 3D printer is difficult as it is, but raising enough funds to start mass production of the unit is even harder. Unless there is a major investor involved – or CEO’s can draw from their own capital reserves – crowdfunding such a project seems to be the best way to get the ball rolling.
Nexa3D is currently running a campaign on Kickstarter for their NX1 3D printer. Unlike most of the devices on the market, the Nexa3D team managed to keep the price rather affordable, while providing the world’s fastest 3D printer in existence today. But that is not all, as the NX1 is the first resin 3D printer based on the company’s self-Lubricant Sublayer Photocuring technology.
As exciting as the world of 3D printing is right now, most printers have one major drawback: it takes several hours to successfully print an item. This was to be expected from the first generation of 3D printers, as the quality of the product is far more important than the amount of time it takes to create.
However, 3D printing has been around for quite some time now, and companies like Nexa3D think it’s time to change the game a bit. Providing quality 3D printed products at reduced speeds is a major step forward for the industry as a whole, especially when the hardware to do so is still fairly affordable.
The speed gain in the NX1’s 3D printing process can be attributed to self-Lubricant Sublayer Photocuring. To put this into practical terms, the NX1 will be able to print an object at a speed of 1-inch in height in about three minutes. For us Europeans, that means this device can print at roughly 1 cm per minute, which is quite an improvement compared to other models.
What is more important, Nexa3D managed not to sacrifice printing quality for faster production. Their NX1 is touted as the first unibody desktop 3D printer engineered for extreme performance and precision. Top-quality print accuracy is accomplished by the machine’s four mechanical, which eliminate mechanical stress.
Making 3D Printers More Accessible To Novice Users
For most novice users, purchasing their first 3D printer is the easy part, but setting it up correctly is a different matter altogether. Most companies include virtual tutorials on how their 3D printer should be set up to avoid any warping during printing. Nexa3D feels the process could be even more simplified as they wanted to make the NX1 approachable for new and experienced users alike.
The first step to making a 3D printer more accessible is by removing the complicated refill process. Nexa3D’s NX1 features an integrated resin cartridge system that eliminates the need for complicated refills. Users can simply enter a new cartridge, and the 3D printer will take care of the rest on its own. Furthermore, no drop of resin is wasted during or in between print jobs.
But there is more, as Nexa3D has also developed a self-cleaning cartridge for the resin tank and the NX1’s internal circuits. Such a tool can be invaluable for people who print 3D objects for other consumers, as changing colors will frequently occur . A self-cleaning cartridge makes the process a lot easier, and less time-consuming.
Other important features include a magnetic system to anchor the NX1 build platform to the printer, the ability to access your 3D printer from anywhere on any device, and durable film that can be replaced easily. Especially this last part is of great interest, as it will not require screwdrivers or other tools to replace the self-lubricating film.
Kickstarter Rewards and Pricing
The NX1 offers a lot of functionality under the hood, combined with a sleek looking Italian design on the outside. Most people would automatically assume this 3D printer will cost an arm and a leg, but this is where Nexa3D surprises almost everybody. Obtaining an NX1 on Kickstarter will set you back at last €1,399, albeit that price point is far lower than most people anticipated.
There are three different tiers available, each of which has their own separate price point that includes some extra items or t-shirts. All of these bundles are expected to ship by March 2016, which means Kickstarter backers won’t have to wait for too long. Do keep in mind shipping costs are not included in the price, and will set you back another US$64 (US shipping), or €60 (European Union).
